Scout Executive Corner

Each year, national BSA measures the performance of local councils with the Journey to Excellence program. Every council is graded on eighteen separate criteria in 5 areas including: Unit Service, Program, Membership, Finance, and Leadership & Governance.

This past year, 2016, was an exceptional year for Scouting in Montana as we achieved the top national rating – Gold Council, with 1900 points.

This ranks us among the very best councils in America.

We have achieved the Gold standard in five of the last six years. Five of our districts achieved Gold status. 2016 Gold districts include Black Otter, Lewis & Clark, Mountain Valley, Mullan Trail and Prickly Pear. Five of our districts achieved Silver status and 2 achieved Bronze. In sum, it was a year of significant achievement!

Success of this kind takes a full team effort. In Montana, we are all part of Team 315. Please pat yourself on the back, congratulate your fellow Scouters, and take pride that together we moved forward in 2016!

But, we have not arrived at a destination – the Journey to Excellence goes on. Now is the time to set our sights even higher, to make Montana Council even stronger, serving more young people in 2017.

Please accept my gratitude and thanks for your leadership and dedication in serving our Scouts with the best possible Scouting experiences. Together we will do even more this year – onward Team 315!!

Yours in Scouting,
